As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the Lead Teacher to create a nurturing and stimulating environment for our young learners. Your primary responsibility will be to support the implementation of the Montessori curriculum, fostering the social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Support & Maintenance:

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in creating and maintaining a well-organized and child-centered Montessori classroom.
  • Prepare and arrange Montessori materials and learning activities to meet the developmental needs and interests of the students.
  • Ensure that the classroom environment and classroom materials are clean, safe, and well-maintained. 
  • Assist in setting up and organizing the learning environment and materials.
  • Help monitor and maintain classroom supplies and learning materials.

Student Guidance & Instruction:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere by promoting independence, self-directed learning, and respect among students.
  • Provide guidance and support to students as they engage with Montessori materials and explore their interests.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to deliver individual and small group lessons to students based on their developmental readiness and interests, as well as Observe and document each student's progress and developmental milestones.
  • Interacting with the students through play, engaging in age-appropriate activities to stimulate their cognitive, physical, and social development.
  • Assisting with feeding, diapering, nap times and maintaining proper hygiene practices for each student.

Classroom Management:

  • Assist in maintaining a peaceful and harmonious classroom environment by modeling positive behavior and resolving conflicts among students using Montessori principles.
  • Support the Lead Teacher in guiding students through daily routines, including arrival, dismissal, snack time, outdoor play, and transitions between activities.
  • Support the transition to after-school as needed.
  • Provide supervision during MGRI’s afterschool program as directed by administration.
  • Provide classroom coverage in any Primary or Elementary classroom as needed and directed by the administration team.

Professional Development & Community Engagement:

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to deepen your understanding of Montessori philosophy, methodology, and best practices.
  • Participate in staff meetings and adhere to all MGRI policy and procedures.
  • Attend all special events on academic calendar unless PTO is requested and approved

Job Types: Salaried, Full-time, Contract

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm (30 min break)

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Bachelor's (preferred)
  • Montessori Certification (preferred)

Experience:

  • Daycare, pre-school, or K-12 Education: 1 year (required)
  • Montessori experience (preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Required)
  • DCF Child Care Training (Required)
