The Chief, Exercise Support Cell is a member of the Ravenswood Solutions Products & Services team. As part of the Live Exercise Division the Chief, Exercise Support Cell reports to a Rotation Director, providing leadership and subject matter expertise in support of Brigade level field training exercises.

Ravenswood Solutions (RS), a wholly owned subsidiary of SRI International, delivers combat readiness field training to U.S. military personnel and other security forces around the country and around the world, is seeking a Chief, Exercise Support Cell for our organization. The Chief, Exercise Support Cell is a member of the Ravenswood Solutions Products & Services (P&S) Department. This position is a remote position with no requirement to relocate.

Job Summary

The Chief, Exercise Support Cell (ESC) is a recognized authority in all aspects of exercise design, scenario development, exercise resourcing, and exercise control for multiple Live Exercises throughout the training year (TY).  Provides leadership in the publication of highly complex and technical products that support each assigned live exercise to meet the customers training objectives and other supporting agencies.  Leadership comprises the application of the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) to develop viable training courses of action, coordinate applicable resources, provide a detailed training assessment, and execution of all other tasks supporting an assigned Live Exercise.  The Chief, Exercise Support Cell also assists the customer with Program development recommending new strategies to better prepare units across the breadth of the Total Force:  all services, National Guard and Reserves.   The Chief, Exercise Support Cell also directs and coordinates with all training support agencies and contractors to synchronize training support and provide 24-hour ESC operations during exercise execution.  Additionally, the Chief, Exercise Support Cell acts as the second-in-command to the Rotation Director for all Operational planning and execution. The Chief, Exercise Support Cell has direct supervision of 1 subordinate.

Specific responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):


•    Facilitate and coordinate the efforts of the ESC SMEs, training unit staff and supporting agencies/contractors to develop and recommend training situational exercises to meet the customer’s training objectives throughout the planning process.
•    Assist the Rotational Director to coordinate Memorandums of Instruction and Memorandum of Record for all planning events.
•    Facilitate, coordinate and develop the training unit horse blanket with training unit and supporting agencies/contractor input.
•    Determine and recommend all training support resources set realistic “CTC like” training conditions to meet the customers training objectives.
•    Coordinate with the I&C Chief to verify all proposed training areas can be supported by the I&C effort.
•    Develop and recommend the I-AAR schedule within capabilities and customer’s guidance.
•    Assist the Rotation Director with resource management to plan and execute the rotation within budget.
•    Coordinate, develop and recommend the rotation ESC staffing plan to support extended (24 hours) operations with supporting agencies/contractors.
•    Coordinate, develop and recommend the training support ESC battle rhythm to properly control, resource and synchronize all training support to meet the customer’s training guidance and adjustments.
•    Provide oversight of Road to War events and facilitate the development all tactical OPORD/FRAGOs to meet the training scenario and commanders training objectives.
•    Synchronize unit activities, OC/T coverage, battlefield effects and instrumentation in support of training scenarios and goals to meet the customer’s Training Objectives.
•    Ensure all Warfighting Function (WFF) SME augmentation, coordinating staffs, and special staffs are synchronized and available to support the unit and training objectives.
•    Integrate the unit troop list, training objectives, METL list, proposed unit task organization, critical task list and provide recommendations to the customer.
•    Facilitate the development and publication of the Exercise Directive, Memorandum of Agreement, and milestones list in support of each rotation.
•    Coordinate and resource the Exercise Academy prior to the start of collective lanes training in support of each exercise ICW supporting agencies/contractor’s requirements and proficiency.
•    Capture ESC lessons learned from major training exercises and establish internal training programs to maximize training based on lessons learned.
•    Assist the Rotation Director to conduct Program Briefings and VIP Briefings as required.
•    Provide programmatic support as required.
•    Perform the Rotation Director duties as required in his/her absence.

Required Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree.   
•    Requires 8-10 years of related experience supporting military operations.
•    Military education - Command and General Staff College graduate.  
•    Retired Military Officer (MAJ/LTC) Combat Arms, Battalion Command preferred or BDE/DIV staff experience.  AC/RC experience preferred.
•    6+ years of experience in planning and management of exercise design/control of C/V/L training activities is highly desired.
•    Secret security clearance required.

•    Demonstrates flexible attitude and adapts easily to changing requirements
•    Able to perform well in high-stress, fast-paced environments
